As a company committed to the promotion of a healthy and safe workplace for all of its employees, BJ Services (as part of its Smoking Policy) looked at various methods and programmes for smoking cessation. After gaining very limited (and temporary) success using patches, lozenges, etc., we contacted Allen Carr’s Easyway to Stop Smoking and had an initial visit from Jim and Paul who outlined their programme to us. Their own practical experience of stopping smoking using Allen Carr’s Easyway to Stop Smoking methods, together with their enthusiasm and obvious passion for the programme, helped to convince us to give it a try.
Following an introductory session in December, 2008, we held our first half-day session in January, 2009 – attended by 10 employees. Some three months later, 50% of the attendees have stopped smoking completely. Some of these new “happy non-smokers” had smoked for many years – and for some, it was a “life changing” experience. It is hoped that an upcoming Booster Session (to be held as part of the programme) will help the remaining 50% to stop completely (although all have already cut down dramatically).
The Allen Carr’s Easyway to Stop Smoking programme has exceeded our expectations and I would have no hesitation in recommending it to any company with a serious commitment to smoking cessation. Jim and Paul continue to demonstrate a practical, no-nonsense approach to the subject, the results of which speak for themselves. BJ Services has every intention of continuing our excellent relationship with Allen Carr’s Easyway, with the aim of making the programme available to more of our employees.
