Outrageous glamorisation of smoking by Celtic goal keeper

CELTIC keeper Artur Boruc looks every inch the Hollywood heartthrob as he poses as movie idol James Dean.

The Parkhead star put his recent troubles behind him for this sultry photo shoot in Poland's MaleMEN lifestyle magazine.

He donned a tight vest and cowboy hat and smoked a cigarette for the images, reminiscent of the legendary 50s actor.

Artur Boruc

Boruc, 29, seemed to suffer a loss of form last season, partly for personal reasons.

Just weeks ago, he revealed his estranged wife Kasia is refusing to divorce him, despite him having set up home with Sara Mannai, 24.

And he hit out at rumours that he has a drink problem, as well as claiming his in-laws attend all his visits with his one-year-old son over fears he'll kidnap the child.

Boruc, nicknamed the Holy Goalie by Celtic fans, made a string of high-profile blunders last season, leading many to question his performances.

He was expected to quit Glasgow with the arrival of Lukasz Zaluska from Dundee United.

But the No1 has put that behind him and new Hoops boss Tony Mowbray looks set to make him his first-choice keeper.

These pictures certainly show Boruc looking fit and healthy as he gears up for the season ahead.

EASYWAY'S OPINION ON THIS STORY

This is an outrageous example of the typical brainwashing and conditioning that has caused  billions of smokers around the world to pick up their first cigarette. Images such as these have been used by the tobacco industry for years to give smoking the image of being cool, sexy or part of someones personality.

A professional sportsman like Artur Boruc should know better. Whilst it may be his thing to be a smoker and a professional  footballer, he shoud have the sense to understand the impact his recent ridiculous photo shoot and subsequent publicity that surrounded it would have all the wrong implications for youngsters who read the article or saw the pictures.

The piece starts by quoting "Celtic keeper Artur Boruc looks every in the Hollywood heart throb as he poses as movie idol James Dean" When we saw this feature we thought "Artur Boruc looks every inch an idiot for glamorising smoking and giving the wrong impression to any young person who reads the magazine or Daily Record and makes them think that smoking makes you look cool and you can still be a professional sportsman and smoke.

It ends by saying

“These pictures certainly show Boruc looking fit and healthy as he gears up for the season ahead”. How on earth can a professional footballer puffing on a cigarette give the impression to anyone that he is indeed fit and healthy? Again this gives the totally wrong impression to anyone reading it.
